INTERVIEWING TIPS

November, 2020

Interviewing is more than a verb; it is a concept that has specific boundaries that need to be withheld to operate properly. The basis or every interview is respect and objectivity. You are not there to judge your subject; you are there to capture their opinion and their insight. It is not your job to tell them if they are right or wrong. Along with that, you should be prepared. Not being prepared will damage your credibility towards your subject and would affect your ability to obtain the information you need to write your story. You also want to make sure your questions are open enough to allow them to elaborate and give detailed answers, but no too vague to where they are able to veer off topic. Making the interview seem less formal is also important. It should flow more like a conversation, allowing the subject to answer the questions in a more comfortable manner.
