ABOUT ME
Aliya Robertson was born in Houston Tx in January of 2002. Born to an English professor and a librarian, reading, writing and critical thinking became a typical part of her life. Aliya’s first introduction to writing was through poetry. Influenced by the works of great poets such as Edgar Allen Poe, Shel Silverstein and Rupi Kaur, Aliya began to use her writing as an outline for the thoughts she was never able to verbally express. However, after discovering the world of Spoken Word, or Slam, Poetry, Aliya realized she wanted to do more than just express her thoughts, she wanted to be able to communicate them to people who may be experiencing similar problems as she was. Her passion for expression and performance would become the foundation for which she would later pursue a career in Communications- Broadcasting.
Like many others her age, Aliya’s defining psychological years were plagued by fear, anger and resentment. As she became more aware of herself, her country would similarly become more aware of the corrupt, prejudice systems that it had been protecting since its creation. Aliya took many of the racial, sexual and gendered stories of oppression to heart, and began speaking out as an advocate for those whose lives were being unfairly scrutinized. It would be this era of national conflict that would spark a flame for Aliya. After experiencing the damage that ensues when people are misinformed or manipulated, Aliya would dedicate herself to becoming a voice for those who had been systematically ignored and belittled.
After receiving her bachelors in Broadcasting, Aliya plans to pursue a career as a new anchor or the voice of a public news radio. She hopes to become a prominent and well-respected voice within the national conversation of equality and equity, using her platform to spread information. Her goal is to better educate the public, so that the public can begin to make more educated decisions when it comes to personal ethics and national policy.
